gender non-conformity

Gender roles and the fluidity of gender identity can manifest itself at any age. Acceptance can only come from understanding.

This is a You tube clip of Jazz a representatie from Transkids Purple Rainbow Foundation. She is seven years old.

As you can see this little girl does not fit into the normal binary classifications of gender. She is in first grade but she is different from all the other girls. As educators, if we want to accept and foster a safe enivornment for Jazz and others like her we must talk to first graders about gender non conformity in all its forms including transgendered children.

i think that this clip is a great example of gender non conformity. This is something that educators should listen to and apply in thier own teaching. This is the sort of ideology that we need in order to change the way that the educational system in run and the children that go through it.

transgendered children is a topic that needs to be included in education at all levels, whether it be in the classroom to potential teachers or in the clasroom to clasmates of a transgendered child.

  3. This child's story is pretty amazing, to realize her sexual identity at such a young age, and to be comfortable enough to talk about it. I hope her parents are supportive, which they seem to be since she is openly talking about it. Hopefully her class mates in school and her teachers will be supportive as well, and will take tho opportunity to educate her classmates
