I agree with this quote by Feinberg, the defintions of masculinity and femininity can vary across cultures, nationalities, and class. Our society's definition has made masculinity to be very narrow and anyone who doesn't fit this definition is ridiculed or looked down upon. This obviously happens quite often with gay men, but some lesbian women are also criticized for being too masculine and not fitting in with society's definition of femininity. These definitions can lead to people becoming easy targets to violence and hate crimes at the hands of those who believe in society's definition of masculinity and femininity.
I agree. In some courties surpassing or blending gender identities is looked upon highly. Doesn't this just go to prove that gender and the steroetypes and ideals that are associated with them socially constructed to meet the needs of the people who are in charge
growing up being masculine as a female wasnt exceptable, little girls were to behave as such in my household. Masculinity was anything that wasnt ladylike according to my parents, it began as a adjective then somehow grew to a way to identify a persons sexual orientation. This demonstrates how the term has evolved over time.
