Laura Bush and same-sex marriage

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has posted a story reporting that former first lady Laura Bush has indicated on Larry King Live that she supports the right to same-sex marriage, even though her husband had a very different view. Cindy McCain has also made it known that she supports same-sex marriage by posing in a picture for the No H8 campaign. The below link will take you to the full story found on HRC's website. As you can see this little girl does not fit into the normal binary classifications of gender. She is in first grade but she is different from all the other girls. As educators, if we want to accept and foster a safe enivornment for Jazz and others like her we must talk to first graders about gender non conformity in all its forms including transgendered children.

I found this site that has some rediculous statistics on homosexuals, the worse one in my opinion is this one.

• Homosexuals are 100 times more likely to be murdered (usually by another homosexual) than the average person, 25 times more likely to commit suicide, and 19 times more likely to die in a traffic accident.

I disagree with this statistic, homosexuals fall victim to hate crimes committed by radical hetersexuals, this has been going on dating back to stone wall days possibly before then. The crime rate against homosexuals have increased tremendously since then, to the point of establishing laws for protection, such as the hate crimes prevention act which included aiding homosexuals who are victims of violent crime because of their sexual orientaion, gender or because they are disabled. I found in 2009 alone there were 7783 hate crime incidents and 9691 victims of these crimes. With this information how are homosexuals 100 times more likely t o be murdered by another homosexual?

country musician comes out as lesbian

I just read online that a country musician has come out this morning. The singers name is chely Wright and she claims that she has his her sexuality in order for her music to be a success. This seems similar to Ricky Martins recent coming out as well. I think that it is sad that musicians have had to hide thier sexuality in order to feel as though they can become a success, however I also think that it is great that some feel as though they can come out now and still be accepted. what do you think??? the article says that Wright has an album due out this week and also a memoir....Im curious to see how well they do after her coming out and also her absense from the music scene from some time.

Give a Damn Campaign

hello all,
I recently heard in the news about True Blood star Ana Paquin coming out as bisexual. This was in part due to the "Give a Damn" campain that she was/ is a part of. I think that this campaign is great and thought that it was a great way for celebrities to be seen as role models with respect to supporting to lgbtq community. I have not however seen any more commercials or seen anything else related to this on television. has anyone else heard anything about this????
