Elderly Gay Couple Split, Possessions Sold by California County

Clay, 77 and Harold, 88 were a couple of 20 years. One evening Harold fell from the stairs and the hospital refused to let Clay make medical decisions for Harold. The judge merely recognized Clay as Harold's roommate. therefore took over their possessions and auctioned them. Three months later Harold dies and Clay doesn't get the chance to spend his last moment with him.

Kentucky Hate Crime

The No H8 campaign posted earlier this week about a lesbian teen who was kidnapped and attacked by three fellow female students in Kentucky. The three teens forced Cheyenne Williams into the woods at Flat Lick Falls and physically assaulted her before attempting to push her off a cliff. Somehow Williams was able to fight off the girls and run away from the scene. The girls are being tried for kidnapping and attempted murder.

This is a perfect and unfortunate example of the intolerance and hate that people have towards the LGBT community. It is also an example of the type of violence that LGBT youth are facing in schools. The article also stated that Cheyenne Williams was not going to return to school for the rest of the year for her safety.

Long Beach State

Hey Everybody ... I read a very disturbing article today that i think is open for discussion on April 15 2010 transgender stusent was attacked on campus!!Why the hell did it take it this long to reach the paper. If something happens like a hate crime on a CSU campus shouldn't we hear about it as well?? The paper states they believe it was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to campus.HA i believe different this is obviously a hate crime the victim was targeted for being transgendernthat is wrong!!!! i would like to find out more of what they are doing to keep other LBGTQ members of that college campus safe

Today in my activism class we had a guest speaker from equality california come in to speak about their organization. Equality California is the largest LGBTQ advocacy group out there. They are doing grass roots work on the ground. their goal is to take back the rights that were ripped from the LGBTQ community. This organization does door-to-door canvases within communties that voted yes on prop 8. They have pursaded some 1,400 voters to re-think their vote come the 2012 election. i feel this organization is on the right track to winning back marriage equality. if anyone is interested in getting invloved please contact Scotti Maldanado 559.593.6766. Equalit California is always looking for volunteers. the more volunteers they have the more people they will be able to reach. there is also an even on may 22nd from 10-4pm in honor of harvey milk. for more information please visit eqca.org
